How much data does Discord use? Boost performance and save data!

how much data does discord use

In the dynamic landscape of online communication, Discord stands as a versatile platform that connects people across the globe. As I immerse myself in the diverse communities and conversations facilitated by Discord, questions about data usage naturally arise. How much data does Discord consume, and how can I optimize its performance while also being mindful of my data usage to save money?

Join me on a personal journey where I share my insights and experiences in the realm of Discord. Throughout this article, I’ll delve into practical tips and tricks that I’ve discovered to enhance my Discord experience. Together, we’ll explore strategies that not only ensure seamless connectivity but also contribute to saving valuable data and, consequently, money.

How much data does Discord use?

In general, Discord will require at least 50MB to 200MB of data usage. Plus, the amount of data Discord uses depends on your usage and settings. Sending plain text messages uses very little data, while voice calls, video calls, screen sharing, and streaming media can use much more. Images and file attachments also increase data usage.

Here is a breakdown of how much data different Discord activities typically use:

  • Text messages: Less than 1MB per hour. Plain text doesn’t use much data.
  • Voice calls: Around 3-8MB per hour. Group calls with multiple people use more data.
  • Video calls: Around 30-150MB per hour depending on video quality. HD video calls use the most data.
  • Screen sharing: Around 20-50MB per hour. More data for frequent sharing.
  • Image attachments: Around 2-5MB per image. Gif attachments use even more data.
  • Audio attachments: Around 5-10MB per song or audio file.

So while basic text messaging doesn’t use much data, activities like voice/video chat and media sharing can quickly add up your monthly data usage.

How to check Discord data usage?

Most operating systems provide tools to view your network data usage over time and see which apps are using the most data.

   1. On Windows

On Windows 10 and 11, go to Settings > Network & Internet > Data usage to see data usage over time and per app. Click on Discord to see its data usage specifically.

   2. On MacOS

On Mac, open System Preferences > Network and click the network connection on the left sidebar (usually Wi-Fi or Ethernet). Click the Statistics tab to see data usage over time. You can also click Applications to see data usage per app.

   3. On iOS

On iPhone and iPad, go to Settings > Cellular (or Mobile Data) to see cellular data usage over time and per app. Scroll down to see Discord’s mobile data usage.

   4. On Android

On Android, go to Settings > Network & Internet > Data usage to view data usage over time and per app. Tap Discord to see how much mobile data it has used.

These tools help you monitor your Discord data usage and identify if it’s higher than expected

Tips to reduce Discord data usage

Discord offers several settings you can adjust to optimize and reduce your data consumption. Here are some of the most effective ways to limit how much data Discord uses:

   1. Setting optimization

Fine-tuning your Discord settings is the first step to efficient data usage. Navigate to your user settings and explore the ‘Voice & Video’ options. Adjusting settings such as ‘Quality of Service High Packet Priority’ and ‘Enable Quality of Service’ can significantly reduce data consumption without compromising audio and video quality. Experiment with these settings to find the perfect balance for your needs.

   2. Server image compression techniques

Servers often share images, memes, and gifs that can contribute to increased data usage. Optimize your server by encouraging the use of compressed images. Utilize online tools or Discord’s built-in options to compress images before sharing, ensuring a seamless experience for all members without burdening your data plan.

   3. Scheduled voice channel optimization

For servers with scheduled voice events, optimize the channels during idle times. Lower the bitrate during periods of inactivity to reduce data consumption. This proactive approach ensures efficient resource utilization without compromising the overall experience during peak usage hours.

   4. Bandwidth-friendly bot usage

Bots are integral to many Discord servers, but some may be data-intensive. Opt for bots that are designed to be bandwidth-friendly. Research and choose bots that offer the necessary functionalities while being mindful of data usage, ensuring a smoother experience for all members.

   5. Innovative screen-sharing strategies

When screen sharing is essential, employ innovative strategies to reduce data usage. Share specific application windows rather than the entire screen and lower the screen share quality if high definition is not crucial. These adjustments can significantly decrease data consumption during collaborative sessions.

Wrap up

In conclusion, understanding “How much data does Discord use?” is crucial for maximizing your digital communication experience. By implementing the tips mentioned and staying informed about the evolving landscape, users can strike the perfect balance between quality and data conservation on Discord.

How to choose a suitable eSIM for international travel?

Prioritizing these criteria will lead you to select a high-quality eSIM provider that keeps you connected abroad in a budget-friendly manner.

   1. Affordability

The cost of the eSIM plan is an important consideration. You should look for plans that offer generous data allowances at reasonable prices. Avoid plans with expensive overage fees or throttled data speeds. Consider both the base price of the plan as well as the per GB cost to find the best value. Regional and local plans tailored to your travel itinerary often provide more affordable options compared to global plans.

   2. Data allowance

Make sure to choose an eSIM plan with an ample data allowance to meet your needs. Estimate your expected monthly data usage based on your travel activities and connectivity needs.

For example, an avid photographer or frequent video caller will require more data than someone mainly using maps and messaging. Also, factor in that you may rely more on cellular data while traveling if WiFi is not readily available. Leave buffer room in your data allowance for unplanned usage.

   3. Data speed

The data speed offered by the eSIM plan directly impacts your connectivity experience. Faster data speeds allow you to seamlessly use data-intensive apps, make HD video calls, and quickly load webpages. Slower data speeds can frustrate usage.

Some eSIM plans offer unlimited data usage but throttles the speed after reaching a certain data limit. For example, speeds may be throttled to 128kbps. This allows basic usage but will feel extremely slow.

   4. Geographic coverage

The countries and regions covered by the eSIM are paramount. Carefully verify the provider’s coverage maps match your travel itinerary. Choosing the wrong plan could leave you without connectivity at inopportune times. Local plans suit single country trips, while regional plans work for multi-country trips within the same region. Global plans provide the most flexibility for complex itineraries crossing regions.

   5. Carrier reputation and support

Opt for eSIM providers with an established positive reputation, reliable networks, and helpful customer support. This ensures you get consistent connectivity and assistance if any issues arise during your trip. Read reviews and check carrier rating sites to identify the most recommended picks.

FAQs

   1. Should I get eSIM for international travel?

eSIMs offer a convenient, fast, and affordable way to stay connected while traveling internationally. Key advantages over physical SIM cards include easy setup (no need to find and insert a SIM card), flexibility to change plans with a reliable connection to stay connected and competitive pricing, often cheaper than international roaming packages from major carriers.

These eSIMs also let you activate data as soon as you land, which is useful for airport pickups, transportation, and getting settled.

While there are some limitations, like lack of voice/text support, eSIMs as the best connectivity option for most international trips. They provide reliable high-speed data at affordable rates.

The best eSIM for international travel is from veteranmax, Airalo and Nomad. These eSIMs provide affordable and flexible data plans, making them great options whether you are taking a short trip or an extended journey abroad.

   3. When should I buy eSIM before traveling?

It is recommended to purchase an eSIM data plan for international travel well in advance of your trip whenever possible. Ideally, you should buy your eSIM at least a few weeks ahead of departure. This allows sufficient time to research providers, compare plans to fit your needs and budget, complete the purchase, and install the eSIM, so it is ready to activate immediately upon arrival at your destination.

Purchasing in advance takes the stress out of sorting out connectivity after a long flight or once you are settled in your accommodation. It also gives you the flexibility to test that the eSIM is working properly on your device before you go. While some eSIM companies let you buy just days or hours before travel, planning ahead helps avoid any last minute technical issues. Having connectivity right after landing also enables you to use maps or transportation apps to navigate your way around an unfamiliar place.

These packages are competitively priced and provide a variety of options to suit different data and duration preferences for travelers in Thailand. I wholeheartedly recommend considering Airalo for a reliable and convenient eSIM experience in Thailand.

What I like:

  • As a seasoned traveler, I have consistently sought reliable connectivity options to stay seamlessly connected while exploring new destinations. In this pursuit, I discovered a reputable eSIM supplier with a commendable track record in the market since 2019. Their extensive experience instilled confidence in me, knowing that I was dealing with a well-established provider.
  • During my travels to Thailand, a country renowned for its breathtaking landscapes and vibrant culture, the stability of internet speeds is paramount. This reputable supplier exceeded expectations, providing consistently stable speeds at the most popular destinations across Thailand. This reliability significantly enhanced my travel experience, allowing me to stay connected without interruptions.
  • In the realm of mobile connectivity, convenience is key. The user-friendly app offered by this experienced eSIM supplier played a pivotal role in simplifying my connectivity management. Navigating through the app was intuitive, allowing for easy activation, monitoring data usage, and accessing support features. This level of convenience added a layer of efficiency to my travels, making it a noteworthy choice for fellow explorers seeking a hassle-free connectivity solution.

What I don’t like:

  • In my experience, dealing with this eSIM provider, which has been in the market since 2019, revealed a notable limitation in terms of package diversity. The majority of their offerings are tailored towards long-term usage, leaving limited options for short-term tourists like myself. This aspect could potentially be a drawback for those seeking flexibility in choosing shorter-duration plans based on their travel itineraries.
  • Another noteworthy observation pertains to the responsiveness of customer support. While the eSIM provider has a solid reputation, I found that the response and support services were relatively slow. This could potentially be an area for improvement, especially for travelers who prioritize quick issue resolution or assistance with their connectivity needs during their journeys.

Indeed, to me, the eSIM packages for 13 countries in Asia provided by Airalo seem to be limited in terms of diversity in terms of days of use. With a primary focus on 7, 30, 90 and 180 day periods, the options may not offer much choice for travelers with varying lengths of stay. A broader selection of package terms, including short-term or longer-term options, can enhance flexibility and better meet the diverse needs of travelers. Expanding the scope of the package term could help Airalo’s services become more flexible and attractive to a wider range of travelers in the near future.

3. Nomad

best esim for Thailand
Nomad, known for being one of the more expensive eSIM brands in the market. Credit Image: getnomad.app

While I value cost savings, I decided to give Nomad a try for the sake of experiencing top-notch service. Nomad, known for being one of the more expensive eSIM brands in the market, caters particularly well to short-term tourists and individuals who embark on extensive travels, covering multiple countries in a single trip. The convenience it offers aligns with the needs of those who value a seamless connectivity experience during their journeys.

Nomad eSIM card offers a range of data plans for travelers in Thailand in 2024. The plans cater to different data requirements and durations. Here’s an overview of the available options:

  • 1 GB data for 7 days: $4 USD
  • 3 GB data for 30 days: $11 USD
  • 5 GB data for 30 days: $14 USD
  • 10 GB data for 30 days: $20 USD
  • 15 GB data for 30 days: $26 USD
  • 20 GB data for 30 days: $30 USD
  • 30 GB data for 30 days: $80 USD
  • 40 GB data for 30 days: $110 USD
  • 50 GB data for 30 days: $125 USD

These plans provide flexibility for travelers with varying data needs during their stay in Thailand. Note that prices and plans are specific to Nomad eSIM and are subject to change, so it’s recommended to check for the latest information and any additional terms or conditions.

What I like:

  • Procuring and installing the Nomad eSIM card was a seamless experience, and I found the entire process to be user-friendly. The accompanying app enhances convenience by providing a straightforward means to top up my eSIM, ensuring that I can manage my connectivity effortlessly.
  • What I appreciate most is the availability of technical support, accessible both within the app and on the web. This dual support system adds an extra layer of reliability, allowing me to seek assistance conveniently, whether I’m on the go or at my computer.
  • The flexibility in contract terms is another standout feature. With options ranging from short-term durations like 3, 5, and 10 days to more extended periods of 16, 30, and 60 days, Nomad’s offerings cater to various preferences and travel requirements. This adaptability ensures that I can select a plan that perfectly aligns with the specific duration of my stay or connectivity needs, providing a high level of customization for a more tailored experience.

What I don’t like:

  • The data offerings from Nomad are constrained, capped at 5GB or below, with no availability of unlimited data plans. This limitation is particularly noticeable in the scarcity of short-term gigabyte plans (1GB), which may not fully meet my data requirements.
  • An additional inconvenience lies in the fact that the Nomad eSIM card doesn’t include coverage for calls or texts. This absence of communication services makes the eSIM less versatile for my needs, especially if I require comprehensive connectivity.
  • Furthermore, the restriction to English-only services and technical support is another consideration. While English support may cater to many users, a broader language support system would enhance accessibility for a more diverse user base.

Despite the quality of service, I found that the price point of Nomad is on the higher side for my budget. While the experience was satisfactory, the cost outweighs the benefits for me personally. As a result, I am now exploring other eSIM providers that offer a more economical solution while still meeting my travel requirements. It’s crucial to strike a balance between cost and convenience, and I believe there might be other options that better align with my financial considerations without compromising too much on the quality of service.

4. Holafly

best esim for Thailand
Holafly takes a prominent spot on my list of the best eSIM options for Thailand. Credit Image: Holafly

Holafly takes a prominent spot on my list of the best eSIM options for Thailand. Renowned for its reliable mobile data plans, Holafly has earned a commendable reputation in the market. One notable advantage is its extensive coverage in Thailand, spanning not only major urban centers but also reaching into some remote and less accessible areas. This broad coverage is made possible by Holafly’s innovative approach – the eSIM seamlessly switches carriers based on signal strength, ensuring optimal connectivity throughout various regions in Thailand.

The available packages for your selection include:

  • 5 days with unlimited data: $19
  • 10 days with unlimited data: $34
  • 15 days with unlimited data: $47
  • 20 days with unlimited data: $57
  • 30 days with unlimited data: $69
  • 60 days with unlimited data: $87
  • 90 days with unlimited data: $99

What I like:

  • In my experience, Holafly’s approach to data packages has proven to be highly adaptable. The categorization by both continent and country enables me to make more nuanced and personalized choices based on my specific travel destinations. This not only ensures that I have sufficient data but also allows for cost-effective solutions tailored to the intricacies of my journey.
  • When it comes to acquiring and setting up Holafly’s eSIM card, I appreciate the user-friendly options provided. The availability of both QR code scanning and manual configuration gives me the flexibility to choose the method that best suits my preferences and device requirements, adding an extra layer of convenience to the process.
  • Holafly’s commitment to customer support stands out prominently. The 24/7 assistance is reassuring, and the fact that support is offered in a variety of languages—Spanish, English, German, French, Italian, and Japanese—ensures that I can communicate effectively and receive help in a language comfortable for me. This commitment to linguistic diversity contributes significantly to the overall positive and inclusive customer experience.

What I don’t like:

  • Firstly, the absence of calls and SMS services is a significant inconvenience, as these are fundamental communication features for many users. Without these functionalities, this eSIM is really not suitable for my needs, as I require traditional voice communication or text messaging services.
  • Furthermore, the limitation on data sharing is another drawback that I’ve encountered. Data sharing is crucial for individuals who want to use their mobile data across multiple devices or share it with others. This limits my flexibility in utilizing data as needed, making it less convenient compared to other options available in the market.
  • In addition to the functional limitations, the cost factor also seems to be a concern. Being one of the most expensive options on the market for me, this could significantly impact the overall value I derive from the service. In the competitive eSIM market, exploring more cost-effective alternatives that provide similar or better services might be a prudent decision to ensure you are getting the best value for your money.

Based on the information stated, using Holafly may be an option to consider. With a good reputation for its mobile data plans, Holafly is particularly impressive in its ability to provide stable signals everywhere in Thailand, even in remote areas. However, with the disadvantages it brings, you should also evaluate carefully. Anyway, it’s fine for me to use.

5. Truphone

Truphone emerges as a cutting-edge mobile network provider, reshaping the landscape of international connectivity. In the fast-evolving landscape of global communication, Truphone’s innovative approach to eSIM technology, coupled with its global reach, customer-centric support, competitive pricing, and risk-free trial, positions it as a frontrunner in providing a truly connected experience for the modern, globe-trotting individual. Therefore, this is the last suggestion I want to introduce to you.

At Truphone, data packages of different durations are offered with different prices and capacities:

  • 1 day – 100 MB: 0$
  • 1 day – 1 GB: 14$
  • 30 days – 2 GB: 18$
  • 30 days – 5 GB: 27€

What I like:

  • Truphone stands out as a mobile network provider with a global reach, offering eSIM cards that cater to users in a remarkable 188 countries. This extensive coverage makes it an appealing choice for individuals who frequently travel internationally like me, providing a seamless and convenient solution for staying connected across borders.
  • Truphone distinguishes itself by providing continuous support through its 24/7 customer service, available both within the dedicated app and on the web. This commitment to accessibility ensures that I can seek assistance at any time, enhancing the overall experience. Additionally, the service is designed to be affordable, making it an attractive option for me – looking for cost-effective international connectivity solutions
  • An enticing feature of Truphone’s service is its 1-day 100MB free trial. This allows me to experience the capabilities of the service firsthand before committing to a paid plan. Such a trial period is a valuable opportunity for me to assess the reliability and suitability of Truphone’s offerings for their specific needs, providing a risk-free entry point into the service.

What I don’t like:

  • The limitations of my current data plans do not meet my expectations. First of all, the limitation of gigabyte storage to 20GB, combined with the lack of unlimited data cards, does not reflect my preferences. The lack of unlimited options is a limitation for me, who needs to use data extensively without worrying about certain limits.
  • Short-term plans, which only provide 1GB capacity, are also not suitable for my needs. This limitation does not meet the need for larger data capacity in short-term periods, or when I need to use more data during specific periods.
  • Furthermore, limiting the duration of the data package to only about 1 or 30 days is very inconvenient for me. The lack of flexibility in timing does not reflect my specific data usage patterns, as I prefer a more customizable approach to suit diverse data usage needs. mine through different periods of time.

2. Airalo

best esim for Mexico
Airalo has gained prominence as a well-known brand in the realm of purchasing eSIMs. Credit Image: Roami

Airalo is my next best eSIM for Mexico suggestion. Indeed, Airalo has gained prominence as a well-known brand in the realm of purchasing eSIMs for international travel. The company, established in Singapore in 2019 by Turkish entrepreneurs Abraham Burak and Ahmet Bahadir Özdemir, has been at the forefront of providing innovative eSIM services. Airalo holds the distinction of being one of the pioneers in offering such services and has achieved extensive coverage across a multitude of countries.

For those planning to use Airalo’s eSIM in Mexico, there are five enticing options to choose from:

  • Mexico 1 GB eSIM for 7 days: 8 USD
  • Mexico 2GB eSIM for 15 days: 15 USD
  • Mexico 3GB eSIM for 30 days: 21 USD
  • Mexico 5GB eSIM for 30 days: 32.50 USD
  • Mexico 10GB eSIM for 30 days: 49 USD

What I like:

  • Airalo’s range of features and services positions it as a comprehensive and user-friendly choice in the eSIM market. The flexibility in their data plans, encompassing regional, national, and global options, caters to diverse connectivity needs, providing users with choices that align with their travel requirements. With eSIM cards available for an extensive 190 countries, Airalo ensures widespread coverage, making it a reliable option for travelers exploring various parts of the world.
  • Personally experiencing the ease of purchasing and installing the Airalo eSIM highlights the company’s commitment to a straightforward and hassle-free process. This user-friendly approach is crucial for ensuring accessibility to a broad audience of travelers, regardless of their technical expertise. It underscores Airalo’s dedication to simplifying the user experience in the realm of international connectivity.
  • The added capability to share data with other devices through Airalo’s eSIM cards is a standout feature that enhances the overall utility of their service. This functionality addresses the evolving needs of modern users who often carry multiple devices, providing a seamless and convenient way to manage and distribute data across their technological ecosystem. This feature, which you personally appreciate, adds an extra layer of convenience to Airalo’s offerings.

What I don’t like:

  • The restricted durations of 7, 15, and 30 days, coupled with very limited gigabyte capacity for short-term plans, may not cater to users with higher data consumption needs or those seeking more flexibility in their connectivity options. The limitations in the gigabyte capacity for short-term plans could pose challenges for me who require extended connectivity without compromising on data usage.
  • The absence of calls and texts in their eSIM cards might be a significant drawback for users who expect a more comprehensive communication package. For me, having the ability to make calls and send texts is an integral part of staying connected during my  journeys.
  • The services and technical support being available only in English, along with extended response times, could be inconvenient for me who is more comfortable communicating in languages other than English. The delay in response times may impact the overall customer experience, especially when timely assistance is crucial.

While Airalo may offer affordability and a user-friendly app for controlling eSIM cards, the limitations you’ve outlined regarding data plans, communication features, and customer support are crucial considerations. For individuals who prioritize a more flexible, comprehensive, and multilingual eSIM solution, exploring alternatives that better align with their specific needs and preferences would be a prudent approach.

3. Alosim

best esim for Mexico
Alosim, a prominent eSIM provider available in more than 130 countries. Credit Image: thebarefootnomad

Alosim, a prominent eSIM provider available in more than 130 countries, has left a positive impression on me since I started using its eSIM services in 2023. One notable feature that caught my attention is Alosim’s provision of eSIM with 5G NR access in various popular destinations. While this feature is not yet available for Mexico, there’s optimism that it could be introduced in the near future. I specifically included Alosim in my eSIM guide for the Americas due to its competitive pricing.

Navigating the Americas, excluding Canada, Mexico, and the United States, is a challenging terrain for eSIM vendors attempting to establish a presence and provide reasonably priced eSIM services, according to many in the industry.

For those planning to use Alosim’s eSIM in Mexico, there are five enticing options to choose from:

  • Mexico 1 GB eSIM for 7 days: 8 USD
  • Mexico 2 GB eSIM for 15 days: 15 USD
  • Mexico 3 GB eSIM for 30 days: 21 USD
  • Mexico 5 GB eSIM for 30 days: 32.50 USD
  • Mexico 10 GB eSIM for 30 days: 55 USD

What I like:

  • The standout features of AloSIM include its hotspot and tethering capabilities, providing me with the convenience to effortlessly share mobile data. Whether I’m creating a Wi-Fi hotspot for multiple devices or using USB/Bluetooth for sharing, these functionalities cater to diverse connectivity needs. The versatility offered by these features positions AloSIM as an excellent choice for staying connected on the go, easily adapting to various scenarios.
  • AloSIM’s user-friendly setup, facilitated through its dedicated app, adds to its commendable features. The straightforward eSIM installation process, guided by an intuitive interface and step-by-step instructions, ensures a seamless setup experience. By simplifying the traditionally complex process associated with traditional SIM cards, AloSIM aims to deliver a hassle-free mobile connectivity setup, especially beneficial for users during their travels.

What I don’t like:

  • The variability in data connection speed stands out as a potential downside, influenced by factors like location, network congestion, or specific conditions affecting speed. This variability may lead to slower-than-expected performance, which, while not uncommon in many mobile connectivity services, can be disappointing. Consistent and reliable speeds are often expected, especially when relying on data for various tasks.
  • Another aspect that might detract from the overall experience is reported issues with customer support. For me, robust and responsive customer support is vital for maintaining user satisfaction and trust in the service. Addressing customer concerns promptly and effectively contributes significantly to the overall reliability and positive perception of the mobile connectivity service.

4. Nomad

best esim for Mexico
I also recommend Nomad as another reliable eSIM provider. Credit Image: whereintheworldisnina

I also recommend Nomad as another reliable eSIM provider, providing eSIM services to many countries. Initially, I expressed some reservations about Nomad’s eSIM service in the Americas, including Mexico, deeming it as mediocre. However, Nomad has since made significant improvements by reducing prices, transitioning to a superior roaming partner, and enhancing overall service quality. While my initial concerns might have been subjective, the recent improvements from Nomad are noteworthy. Notably, in many countries across the Americas, Nomad collaborates with Truphone, a globally recognized connectivity service provider.

Nomad offers a range of eSIM options for Mexico, catering to different data requirements and preferences. These include:

  • Mexico 1 GB eSIM for 7 days (eSIM Go): $9 USD – highly favored by readers.
  • Mexico 1 GB eSIM for 7 days (Truphone): $8 USD.
  • Mexico 3 GB eSIM for 30 days (eSIM Go): $14 USD – very popular with readers.
  • Mexico 3 GB eSIM for 30 days (Truphone): $18 USD.
  • Mexico 5 GB eSIM for 30 days (eSIM Go): $20 USD – the most popular choice among readers.
  • Mexico 5 GB eSIM for 30 days (Truphone): $27 USD.
  • Mexico 10 GB eSIM for 30 days (eSIM Go): $32 USD.

What I like:

  • Nomad’s emphasis on ensuring a stable internet for me is commendable. By likely offering features to locate reliable Wi-Fi spots, co-working spaces, or community-recommended places, Nomad provides a valuable service in maintaining consistent connectivity in various locations. This can be particularly useful for digital nomads like me or individuals who rely on stable internet access.
  • Another positive aspect of the app is its offering of an extensive and versatile range of eSIM plans. By tailoring plans to suit various preferences, data needs, duration of stay, and preferred regions of travel, Nomad provides a high level of flexibility that can greatly benefit users seeking tailored connectivity solutions.
  • By enabling users to accrue points gradually and redeem them for various data plans, Nomad has added a layer of value and flexibility to its service. This not only fosters an engaging experience but also offers a rewarding journey for those who regularly engage with the app (like me). The loyalty points system serves as an incentive, encouraging continued usage and creating a mutually beneficial relationship between Nomad and its dedicated users.

What I don’t like:

  • Suppose you opt for a 30-day eSIM from Nomad; you will have a 60-day window to utilize it before expiration. Personally, I do not endorse this policy, considering that many eSIM providers in this guide do not impose such restrictions. Nevertheless, I appreciate Nomad’s transparency in clearly communicating this policy when users make a purchase – there’s no attempt to conceal it.

5. Holafly

best esim for Mexico
Holafly is my last suggestion in the list of best eSIM for Mexico. Credit Image: cultofmac.com

Holafly is my last suggestion in the list of best eSIM for Mexico.  Holafly is operating in over 150 countries and covering regions such as Europe, most East and Southeast Asian countries, and even some others, including Mexico.

Holafly distinguishes itself by offering a variety of eSIM options specifically tailored for Mexico. These options cater to different durations and preferences, providing a range of choices for travelers. The flexibility in these plans allows travelers to select an eSIM option that aligns with their specific needs and preferences. Whether the travel duration is short-term or longer, Holafly aims to provide diverse plans to accommodate various preferences. These include:

  • Mexico unlimited data eSIM for 5 days: $19 USD – a popular choice among readers.
  • Mexico unlimited data eSIM for 7 days: $27 USD – highly favored by readers.
  • Mexico unlimited data eSIM for 10 days: $34 USD – another preferred option.
  • Mexico unlimited data eSIM for 15 days: $47 USD.
  • Mexico unlimited data eSIM for 20 days: $54 USD.
  • Mexico unlimited data eSIM for 30 days: $64 USD.
  • Mexico unlimited data eSIM for 60 days: $84 USD.
  • Mexico unlimited data eSIM for 90 days: $99 USD.

What I like:

  • In my personal experience, Holafly’s app and website have proven to be exceptionally user-friendly, facilitating a quick and simple setup process. In fact, I’ve found that I can be up and running within just 10 – 15 minutes. The installation of a Holafly eSIM card is straightforward, whether done by scanning the QR code sent to my email after completing the purchase or manually without a computer. Writing the code in the settings of my mobile phone, which I can refer to via email or in the Holafly app, provides an additional level of convenience, especially when managing the duration of data packets.
  • Holafly’s customer support has been impressive, boasting 24/7 availability. This means that no matter where I find myself in the world, they’re ready to assist. Such continuous support sets Holafly apart, as not many other providers can offer the same level of availability.
  • Another notable benefit of using Holafly is the ability to seamlessly continue using my WhatsApp number, which proves extremely useful, especially when abroad. While the eSIM doesn’t include a local phone number for traditional calls, Holafly’s integration with WhatsApp ensures that making calls remains easily accessible and convenient.

What I don’t like:

  • Many travelers have reported experiencing speed limitations, often enforced after consuming 2.5 GB to 3 GB of data per day. Some even encounter restrictions after using as little as 1 GB to 1.5 GB daily. In my case, unlike most travelers, I prefer utilizing multiple local SIM cards and a travel eSIM for testing purposes during my journeys. This strategy allows me to distribute my data usage across various cards.
  • For countries without unlimited data plans, it’s crucial to note that Holafly doesn’t increase speeds beyond the allocated limits. Additionally, it’s worth mentioning that Holafly’s unlimited data plans for Mexico are among the pricier options. It’s essential to keep in mind that the Holafly Mexico eSIM cannot be topped up or extended; once you run out of data or the eSIM expires, a new one must be purchased. Therefore, it’s advisable not to install the eSIM (via scanning the QR code or entering the activation code manually) too early, opting for optimal timing closer to your actual usage needs.

Above is a list of 5 best eSIM for Mexico that I want to share with you. I’m a frequent traveler, so finding the right solution was extremely important in optimizing my budget and enhancing my experience. To me, all 5 have their own impressive points, however, I choose veteranmax and Airola as the two best candidates. For now, I’m using veteranmax for all my trips, not just limited to Mexico. You can absolutely try it. It will be extremely unexpected and convenient!

  • The limited capacities of short-term plans may necessitate frequent recharges, potentially leading to increased costs over time.
  • The duration of some plans exceeding one month may not suit shorter trips.

Considering these factors, while Airalo is known for its affordability, the limitations in data capacity, plan durations, and customer support responsiveness make me cautious about relying on it for my international connectivity needs.

4. Nomad

best esim for Asia
Nomad provides data plans across 100+ countries. Credit Image: journeyera

Nomad provides data plans across 100+ countries, featuring local, regional, and global options, including the APAC eSIM plan. My personal experience using Nomad in Thailand was positive. As I delved into Nomad’s services, I discovered a diverse range of options, including regional and global plans, allowing users to customize their data plans based on specific geographical needs.

One striking aspect that caught my attention is Nomad’s website design, which stands out for its modern and user-friendly interface. The contemporary layout enhances the overall experience for visitors, making it easier to navigate and access relevant information about the available data plans.

However, another observation is that Nomad solely provides short-term plans, limited to a maximum duration of 30 days. While suitable for many travelers, this constraint may pose a drawback for long-term travelers like myself. Longer-term plans could offer a more convenient option for extended stays or consistent connectivity during extended journeys. Considering individual preferences and travel durations, it’s essential to evaluate how this limitation aligns with specific needs.

Nomad offers both fixed and unlimited data plans, ensuring flexibility for users. Notably, their plans cover Asia, encompassing 12 countries with various data options:

  • 1 GB, valid for 7 days, priced at $6
  • 3 GB, valid for 30 days, priced at $15
  • 5 GB, valid for 30 days, priced at $17

What I like:

  • Flexibility in tailoring data plans to specific geographic needs.
  • The modern and user-friendly website design enhances the overall experience.

What I don’t like:

  • Short-term plans, with a maximum duration of 30 days – this may be limiting for long-term travelers seeking extended connectivity.

While acknowledging the exceptional quality of service provided by Nomad, the inflated pricing caused me to reassess my budget. Investigation of alternative eSIM providers is necessary. Maybe veteranmax will do a good job as a successor.

5. BNESIM

best esim for Asia
BNESIM stands out as an eSIM provider offering services in over 200 countries. Credit Image: BNESIM

Established in 2017, BNESIM stands out as an eSIM provider offering services in over 200 countries. In my exploration of BNESIM, I discovered that their coverage spans over 200 countries, providing a comprehensive solution for global travelers like myself. This expansive coverage is particularly appealing, ensuring that I can maintain connectivity across a diverse range of destinations.

One feature that caught my attention is the availability of non-expiring plans. As someone who often embarks on unpredictable journeys, having the option for plans that don’t come with an expiration date is a significant advantage. This flexibility aligns with my dynamic travel needs, allowing me to use the service as required without the pressure of adhering to a specific timeframe.

However, as I navigated through BNESIM’s website, I couldn’t help but notice that the site design appeared somewhat plain and lacked the intuitive user-friendly features I typically look for. The presentation of plans, in particular, felt overwhelming and not as streamlined as I would prefer, making it a bit challenging to evaluate options effectively.

Specifically targeting Asia, BNESIM provides a comprehensive plan covering 28 countries in the region. The plan offers flexibility with various data options:

  • 1 GB for $8.22, valid for 30 days
  • 5 GB for $38.62, valid for 30 days
  • Unlimited data (with 8GB high speed) for $70.35, valid for 30 days
  • 10 GB for $73.96, valid for 30 days

What I like:

  • Impressive coverage of over 200 countries, providing a comprehensive solution for global travelers.
  • The availability of non-expiring plans stood out as a valuable feature
  • The discounts on monthly data plans add a cost-effective advantage

What I don’t like:

  • The website is designed to be somewhat plain and lacking intuitive features, particularly in the presentation of plans.

I’m definitely looking forward to seeing the new version, hoping that it will address the current challenges and offer a more user-friendly interface, making the process of exploring and choosing plans more intuitive for users like myself.

Notably, it proves to be more economical than renting a mobile hotspot for trips, providing added value for travelers. The ability to share Airalo data is a significant advantage, particularly for individuals whose smartphones support mobile hotspot functionality. It’s worth considering that laptops, known for higher data consumption, can benefit greatly from Airalo’s cost-effective data plans.

Airalo collaborates with Meraki Mobile to offer four local plans in Greece, utilizing the Wind and Cosmote (4G) networks. Here’s a brief overview of the available plans:

In my opinion, Airalo offers a convenient, cost-effective and adaptable solution for individuals seeking global connectivity when traveling to Greece. Continuing with my list of top eSIM options for Korea, let me introduce you to Airalo. Airalo stands out as an excellent eSIM provider for South Korea, utilizing its online platform to grant global access to eSIMs through partnerships with major local telecom providers. In the realm of mobile connectivity, convenience is paramount. Their intuitive interface facilitated seamless activation, efficient monitoring of data usage, and easy access to support features. This unparalleled level of convenience added a distinctive layer of efficiency to my travels.

In South Korea, Airalo collaborates directly with LG U+ to deliver high-speed coverage across the country, ensuring connectivity wherever your travels take you. For exclusive South Korean use, Airalo offers two plans – 10 days and 30 days – both featuring unlimited data, catering to different durations of stay. Additionally, for those traversing multiple Asian countries, Airalo presents six diverse plans tailored to different preferences and needs.

The one-time prices for Airalo’s eSIMs for Korea range from $32 to $62, offering data allowances between 1GB and 20GB. These plans are designed to suit the requirements of most travelers, ensuring sufficient data for a seamless experience.

Another notable observation centers around the responsiveness of their customer support. While the eSIM provider enjoys a solid reputation, my experience revealed a relative slowness in response times and support services.

What I like:

  • Ideal for multi-country travels
  • An intuitive interface for seamless activation
  • Affordable price

What I don’t like:

  • The majority of offerings being geared towards long-term users
  • Slowness in customer support response times

In conclusion, I highly recommend Airalo, particularly for frequent travelers. The service not only excels in providing excellent connectivity in South Korea but also serves as a reliable companion for seamless communication during your travels abroad. Consider Airalo for your eSIM needs, and elevate your connectivity experience on your journeys.

3. Yesim

Yesim’s competitive pricing caters to a range of budgets. Credit Image: prweb

Yesim, a Swiss-based eSIM service, has garnered acclaim for its comprehensive coverage across global regions, including South Korea. This means I can stay connected seamlessly across diverse destinations, enhancing my travel experience.

Yesim’s competitive pricing caters to a range of budgets, providing an affordable solution for my connectivity needs. This cost-effectiveness aligns well with my preference for economical yet reliable eSIM services.

Yesim’s package range presents a spectrum of data allowances, spanning from 3GB to 20GB, with corresponding prices ranging between $8 and $28, allowing me to choose a plan that perfectly matches my data consumption patterns. This flexibility ensures that I’m not paying for more than I need, enhancing the value of the service for me.

However, I find Yesim’s limitation in plan duration options a drawback, especially if I need connectivity for periods beyond a month. The availability of 30-day validity only for specific plans may not align with my diverse travel durations. When compared to competitors like veteranmax, I perceive Yesim’s offerings as slightly less attractive due to potential limitations in plan duration flexibility.

What I like:

  • Comprehensive eSIM coverage worldwide
  • Yesim’s competitive pricing caters to a range of budgets
  • The versatility in data allowances

What I don’t like:

  • Yesim’s limitation in plan duration options

Yesim’s reputation for reliability and global coverage remains a strong point, yet travelers considering options for their South Korea trips may find value in carefully weighing the duration and pricing factors against other providers. Ultimately, the decision between Yesim and alternative eSIM services depends on the specific needs, preferences, and priorities of the traveler, taking into account factors such as duration of stay, data requirements, and overall cost considerations.

4. Nomad

best esim for Korea
Next, on my list of the best eSIMs for Korea, we have Nomad.

Next, on my list of the best eSIMs for Korea, we have Nomad. They introduce a selection of seven distinct plans designed specifically for travelers bound for South Korea. In my exploration of Nomad’s eSIM service, I’ve found my journey to be notably smooth, with an intuitive process for acquiring and installing the eSIM card. The convenience is further amplified through the user-friendly app, providing an easy avenue for topping up my eSIM and managing connectivity seamlessly.

What stands out for me is Nomad’s dual support system, available both within the app and on the web. This dual-channel technical support enhances my confidence, ensuring assistance is accessible whether I’m on the go or working from my computer.

The flexibility in contract terms, ranging from short-term to extended durations, is a strong suit. Nomad’s diverse plans cater to various preferences and travel needs, allowing me to customize my connectivity based on the specific duration of my stay.

On the flip side, while Nomad’s English-only services may suffice for many users, the absence of a more extensive language support system could be a limitation for those seeking support in different languages.

What I like:

  • smooth process for acquiring and installing the eSIM card.
  • Dual support system, available both within the app and on the web.
  • The flexibility in contract terms, ranging from short-term to extended durations.

What I don’t like:

  • The limited data offerings, absence of unlimited data plans, and scarcity of short-term gigabyte plans.
  • The absence of a more extensive language support system.

Despite the quality of service, the higher price point of Nomad raises budget considerations for me. Exploring alternative eSIM providers becomes a unique avenue to find a solution that offers a better balance between cost and convenience, aligning more closely with my financial considerations without compromising on the overall service quality.

5. Holafly

best esim for Korea
Holafly’s approach to data packages to be remarkably adaptable. Credit Image: es.derutaenfamilia

My last suggestion for the best eSIM for Korea is Holafly. In my exploration of eSIM services, I came across Holafly, a trusted provider offering eSIMs for South Korea and other global destinations.  In my personal experience, I find Holafly’s approach to data packages to be remarkably adaptable. The classification based on both continent and country empowers me to make more nuanced and personalized choices, aligning precisely with my specific travel destinations.

Holafly’s packages are available in the price range of $19 to $99, with validity periods spanning from five to 90 days. Similar to veteranmax, Holafly collaborates with local networks in South Korea, contributing to reliable connectivity during my travels. The unlimited data feature makes Holafly an appealing choice for individuals like me who prioritize continuous and uncapped internet access.

One aspect of Holafly that truly stands out for me is their commitment to customer support. The assurance of 24/7 assistance is invaluable, and the provision of support in a variety of languages – Spanish, English, German, French, Italian, and Japanese – ensures effective communication and assistance in a language that suits me best. This dedication to linguistic diversity significantly enhances the overall positive and inclusive customer experience.

However, it’s important to consider that most travelers typically do not require such extensive data volumes. For the average vacationer, the more cost-effective and varied packages offered by veteranmax may be more than sufficient.

What I like:

  • Holafly’s approach to data packages to be remarkably adaptable.
  • The assurance of 24/7 assistance is invaluable, and the provision of support in a variety of languages.

What I don’t like:

  • High cost

In conclusion, Holafly’s unlimited data packages provide a solution for users with high data consumption needs, but the higher cost may not be necessary for the majority of travelers. For me, veteranmax’s affordable and diverse packages seem to strike a better balance, offering ample data for a satisfying travel experience. The decision between Holafly and veteranmax ultimately depends on individual preferences and specific data requirements.

Choosing eSIM for Korea: 4 Important aspects

When choosing an eSIM for use in Korea, it’s crucial to consider several key factors to ensure optimal compatibility and performance.

1. Network coverage:

Begin by evaluating the eSIM provider’s coverage and reliability within Korea, emphasizing remote or less densely populated areas. Insights from customer reviews and coverage maps are valuable in understanding the provider’s network performance.

2. Data usage:

Tailor your choice based on your data usage patterns, considering whether the provider offers customizable plans or fixed packages. Also, check for the availability of a top-up option to ensure flexibility for longer or unexpected data needs.

3. Data speed:

Prioritize data speed to guarantee a satisfactory online experience. Check if the eSIM provider offers high-speed data services compatible with Korea’s network infrastructure. Consider providers supporting the latest mobile data technologies, like 4G or 5G, for enhanced speeds. Select a plan aligning with your specific needs, whether it involves streaming, video conferencing, or large file downloads.

How to choose eSIM for Portugal for tourists?

Here are 4 key criteria to consider when choosing an eSIM for tourists visiting Portugal:

   1. Network coverage

The network coverage offered by the eSIM provider is crucial. You will want to ensure the eSIM uses one of the major networks in Portugal like Vodafone or MEO that offer extensive 4G/LTE coverage across most of the country. Avoid niche or lesser known providers that may have limited coverage, especially in rural areas.

   2. Data allowance

best esim for portugal
Choosing enough data to stay connected during your trip is crucial. Credit: Optus

Most tourists will need at least 10 – 20GB of data during a 1-2 week trip to Portugal. This allows moderate usage of maps/navigation, social media, some video/music streaming, and web browsing.

My recommendation is to choose a day pass data plan or a top-up option, removing concerns over running out of high-speed data. For shorter trips under a week, an eSIM with 5GB may suffice if you don’t plan on heavy usage. Compare the data amounts to your expected usage.

   3. Data speed

Most tourists will want an eSIM that provides fast 4G LTE data speeds. This allows for smooth streaming, video calling, using maps/navigation apps, and uploading photos. Avoid eSIMs that only provide 3G speeds, as these will be quite slow and can worsen your experience in some crowded places.

   4. Ease of use

A tourist eSIM should be easy to set up and use while traveling. The eSIM account and activation process should be quick and convenient directly from your phone. Choose an eSIM provider like Holafly that offers reliable connectivity the moment you land, without needing to find and install separate apps or profiles. Being able to use the eSIM as the primary cellular connection on your phone is also convenient.

The 10+ historical places in Italy for travelers

1. Holy See (Vatican City)

I arrived at Rome’s central station after a rather deserted train early in the morning. What caught my eye were homeless people lying along the street side shops. It turns out that Europe is not only rosy, there are still poor and pitiful people. In return for that bit of sadness, the sky in Rome today is incredibly beautiful and blue. I quickly moved to the Holy See (Vatican City). Omg, I don’t need a fancy camera, I can still get beautiful photos of the sky like that.

historical places in Italy
The Holy See is considered a symbolic building of the city

The Holy See (Vatican City) is the first historical place in Italy that we recommend you must go to when coming to Rome, Italy because this is considered a symbolic building of the city. For the most comfortable and convenient visit, you should book tickets online before starting your journey, then you will just need to present your ticket and experience without having to wait in line. Because this place, as far as I know, has about 15,000 visitors every day.

The destination of the Holy See that should not be missed is the Vatican museum. This place is designed with long corridors, with galleries of extremely beautiful and skillful sculptures, with value and a rich history of up to 2000 years old. Looking up at the ceiling, you can also admire excellent and splendid paintings with very sophisticated drawing and weaving or sculpture art.

Next, you should visit St. Peter’s Basilica. It took the builders more than 150 years to complete the cathedral. Therefore, this is a work of great significance and historical value for the people of Rome. In addition, this is also a place for Popes to rest, and ceremonies are held every afternoon. Then, I chose to visit the Sistine Chapel. This is called the treasure of the Vatican because all the most valuable works of art in the world are kept here. When tourists visit, they must adhere to the “No camera” principle.

St. Peter’s Square is the next historical place in Italy you can visit. A large, extremely vast campus, and when viewed from here, the overall architecture of the Vatican will be most comprehensive. And don’t worry about language issues, when you buy a tour ticket, there will be headset devices and very good language translation support.

2. Florence Cathedral

Until now, after a while since visiting Florence Cathedral, I still have a very familiar feeling. Also known as the Duomo, Florence’s cathedral is one of the top historical places in Italy to visit. It is also one of the largest churches in Italy and the most important landmark in Florence – the heart of Tuscany. I really don’t know what to say because visiting this place gives me an extremely difficult feeling to describe.

The cathedral is considered the birthplace of the Renaissance, and initial construction began in 1296 but it was completed some 200 years later, in 1436, after the addition of a dome. The Duomo is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and stands tall in the city of Florence, reminiscent of Italy’s golden age.

3. Colosseum, Rome

historical places in Italy
Roman Colosseum had been destroyed and repaired many times

Omg, even a light breeze made me feel a bit chilly when I came here! Only when I saw it with our own eyes did I believe that the Roman Colosseum had been destroyed and repaired many times. Although it is only a ruin, it is still a symbol and heroic testament to the great Roman Empire, one of the most beautiful and unique ancient Roman architectural works left in the world.

Regarding the history of the Roman arena, it was not only a place for gladiators to compete but also a place to torture gladiators – prisoners after wars – with other beasts. When visiting, surely the first feeling when you step in is a boiling, somewhat barbaric atmosphere of the past. Although it is a bloody arena, this historical place in Italy is still very magnificent and is a place for tourists to visit and witness this impressive historical site with their own eyes. And every year the Popes still take time to commemorate and pray for those who died here.

In addition, I also learned a lot of interesting things about the Roman Colosseum in Italy. Perhaps most impressively, it is the largest Roman amphitheater in the world, accommodating up to 65,000 spectators at peak times. This is where all walks of life can gather and watch the matches. And of course there will be a solemn area for the Emperor and his courtiers.

4. Venice

Romantic, beautiful and peaceful – are the words I want to say when visiting Venice. If you go to historical places in Italy and don’t visit Venice, it will be a big mistake in your life. Although Venice is not the capital of Italy, it is an extremely famous city. Venice is known as the city of love.

I heard locals say that Venice is made up of 118 islands and 175 canals, the islands connected by 444 bridges. With more than 400 bridges, no two trees are the same and no two corners are the same. Just going and getting lost in Venice is what we like the most.

The Grand Canal in Venice, Italy is a famous S-shaped traffic road. This canal also has a boat racing festival on the Grand Canal every September. If you come to Italy, this canal will give you the opportunity to admire the most wonderful beauty. From the bus station, you will immediately see the Grand Canal. I see this as a national highway.

In addition, sitting on the Gondola, I can admire tube houses with many windows, small bridges with romantic love stories. In my opinion, Venice requires at least 1 day to fully visit. If you have 1 more day, you can go to Burano island and Murano island very nearby by waterbus with an affordable price.

5. Pantheon

historical places in Italy
The Pantheon is the best-preserved ancient Roman structure in the world

You can use the metro, taxi or bus to get to the Pantheon. I chose the subway because it is the most used means of transportation here because of its convenience, cheap price, and continuous travel. There is a trip every 10 minutes so visitors will not have to spend too much time waiting.

The Pantheon is the best-preserved ancient Roman structure in the world, originally built between 27 BC and 14 AD. At that time, it was built as a Roman temple dedicated to the Pantheon but was converted into a Catholic Church in the 7th century and renamed the Basilica of Saint Mary and the Martyrs to honor Mary and the martyrs.

Today, the building is one of the most famous historical monuments in Italy, one of the most recognizable landmarks in Rome and one of the historical places in Italy not to be missed when in the city. If I travel to Italy again, I will probably still visit this place, because the atmosphere here is very different from the outside world.

6. Michelangelo Square

I arrived in Florence with zero knowledge and I was completely captivated by Florence. I visited a lot of spots here, but Piazza Michelangelo is my favorite historical place in Italy. Michelangelo Square was designed and built in 1869 by architect Giuseppe Poggi and is the most beautiful place to watch the sunset.

From Vecchio bridge, I walked along the banks of the Arno river and then climbed Michelangelo hill for a total of about 30 minutes. I walked slowly, looking at the traffic, people, river, and shops along the way. When climbing to the middle of the hill, I was quite tired. I had to stop and rest a bit before continuing to climb. I couldn’t climb up in one breath.

Surrounded by other church towers, brown-tiled houses with yellow walls, the winding Arno River flowing under small bridges, the faint green hill in the distance and the nearby forests still mark the rest of the painting. The city walls have almost disappeared during the expansion of the city.

Most of the images of Florence that appear on postcards are taken from a viewpoint in Michelangelo Square. In the middle of the square there is also a blue replica of David statue. A large crowd of people gathered towards the sun waiting for the moment of sunset. This space is suitable not only for watching the sunset but also for watching the entire city covered in sunset light. Uhm…coming here with your lover is not a bad idea!

7. Cinque Terre Land

Cinque terre is a rugged coastal area located on the Riviera. In Italian, Cinque Terre means five lands: Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore. The highlight of the villages in Cinque Terre are the colorful houses lined up close together, overlapping each other along narrow alleys and cliff sides. In the small alleys, you will encounter images of local Italian life with flower-filled balconies, fluttering clotheslines and cats playing on the doorstep.

You should buy a Cinque Terre card for unlimited train travel within these 5 lands and some adjacent locations. I personally spent 2 full days exploring and experiencing all 5 villages above because for me, each village has its own beauty and scenery to explore and feel. Truly one of the unforgettable historical places in Italy for me!

8. Vesuvius volcano

Vesuvius volcano is located in the Bay of Naples, Italy

This is a stratovolcano with a height of 1,232m, the crater is about 305m deep as of the time after the last eruption in 1944. Vesuvius volcano is located in the Bay of Naples, Italy. This volcano is still active today. For me, the tour to this volcano was the most dangerous trip of my trip. I was even able to get to the top and look into the crater.

The distance from the foot of the mountain to the top of the mountain is quite long, about more than 30 minutes of walking. Therefore, you should avoid going in the hot, sultry seasons, which is very tiring. Especially in the summer when the temperature increases, there are many potential dangers at Vesuvius volcano, you need to pay attention to this. Surely this will be an interesting experience and an impressive historical place in Italy for you to explore.

9. Pianosa Island

The island served as the base for a special security prison until 1998, when the prison closed. Some residents eventually left and Pianosa was abandoned for many years. Tourists were not allowed on the island until recently and those who did visit could only arrive as part of an organized boat tour, which had to be booked in advance through specific tour operators.

Once nicknamed “Devil’s Island”, Pianosa has now become a popular happy retreat thanks to its beautiful beaches and lush vegetation. But that is not the most special thing on the island.

What impresses me the most is that there is only Manca here who is a woman and the service staff are men, even prisoners. Despite living with male prisoners, Manca always felt comfortable on the island and considered it a “safe haven”. Well, I tried coming here and it feels like..well…you should experience historical places in Italy yourself!

10. The Leaning Tower of Pisa

The Leaning Tower of Pisa got its name because it began leaning to one side a few years after construction began in 1173 due to weak foundations. Built in the 12th century, the original shape is no different from other towers in the world. But built on sinking ground, over time, the tower took on its current characteristic tilted shape.

Currently, after many efforts to save it after the risk of collapse, the leaning tower of Pisa has a stable tilt of 3.9 degrees, this is a big improvement compared to the 5.5 degree tilt it achieved previously. 1990. Construction of the tower is still underway to keep it standing as long as possible.

In my experence, compared to other historical places in Italy, the Leaning Tower of Pisa complex is not so unique and attractive. However, if you still want to see this famous strange structure with your own eyes, it’s okay because it only takes half a day to go to and from Florence.

Wrap up

These 10+ historical sites are not mere relics; they are living chronicles of a nation’s grandeur, resilience, and artistic brilliance. As you bid farewell to these storied landscapes, may the echoes of gladiatorial battles in the Colosseum, or the artistic resonance of Florence linger as cherished memories, etching Italy’s rich history indelibly in your heart and mind.

In addition, planning a trip to Italy is not simply about choosing a destination and time, but also about careful preparation for every aspect of the journey. For a complete trip and maximum exploration, networking is extremely important. Let veteranmax help make your trip to Italy more meaningful than ever!

Absolutely, September is a good time to visit Italy for several reasons:

  • Autumn nature and landscape: September marks the change of seasons, creating especially beautiful natural landscapes with autumn colors. The 7 best places to visit Italy in september

To me, Italy is truly a magical place, the dreamlike landscapes blessed by nature in this place have taken me from one surprise to another. From modern cities to remote countryside, everywhere in Italy is amazingly beautiful as if you were lost in a wonderland. These are the 5 best places to visit Italy in September.

1. Milan

I arrived in Milan on an autumn afternoon in September by train

I arrived in Milan on an autumn afternoon in September by train. I eagerly moved to the nearby hotel to put my things away and rushed to Duomo di Milano because my main purpose of coming to Milan was to see the Duomo di Milano cathedral with my own eyes – cultural and architectural symbol of Milan.

Duomo di Milano

I took a metro from my accommodation to get to the church. Stepping out of the metro, the church appeared right before my eyes – a huge, massive building with a lot of people. It’s even more majestic than I imagined. One of the best places to visit in Italy in September!

Milano Cathedral was built in 1386, this is one of the magnificent and sacred cathedrals of Northern Italy, taking up to 5 centuries to complete. There are a lot of pigeons here, but everyone should be careful if anyone comes to give you bread or food to feed the birds, because I heard they will ask for money.

Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II shopping area

This extremely busy shopping area is located right next to the Duomo and is equally crowded with people. Partly because of the number of tourists coming from all over the world. Another reason is that people here are often “quiet” from June to August, but they will return in September with fashionable outfits and a new source of vitality. That energy was spread throughout the city when I came here.

This is a massive architectural work with countless world-famous brand stores and restaurants, cafes and bars. I stared blankly at the domed architecture, the sparkling luxury brand stores, and the stream of people walking around with designer bags in their hands. Coming here, it feels like anyone can buy branded clothes easily, everyone wears branded clothes, and holds branded bags in their hands.

2. Sicily

Sicily is my other recommendation for the best places to visit Italy in September. A trip to Sicily in the summer is probably not a great idea because of the hot weather here. It’s not a mistake to visit this place in the fall. For the islanders here, Sicily is not only famous as a “mafia mecca” in the legendary novel and movie “The Godfather”, but it is also a land of culture, language and cuisine.

Cefalu

When coming to this largest island in the Mediterranean, you definitely cannot miss Cefalu – a small fishing village located in the north of Sicily, which is also the most enchanting destination on the entire island.  This village is nearly 1 hour by train from Palermo or you can also get to Cefalu at the same time by bus with a fare of only a few Euros per trip.

Into the central area, you will see many shops selling handmade souvenirs – a characteristic of the town. At the end of town, there is a beautifully lit path leading over the cliffs, a great place to relax and watch the sunset. It would be remiss not to rate Cefalu as the best place to visit Italy in September.

Catania

In my opinion, Cefalu and Catania are like two extremes – two personalities – two completely different worlds. In contrast to ancient, peaceful Cefalu is Catania, Sicily’s second largest city with the still active volcano Etna, attracting visitors’ eyes at first sight with a strong attraction. This is Sicily at its most youthful, a city full of bars, famous for its Aperol Spritz. The high energy and worldly spirit contrast sharply with the aristocratic atmosphere of Palermo or the peacefulness of Cefalu. Come and feel it!

3. Rome

Rome is also one of the best places to visit in Italy in September

Italy’s capital Rome is a world-famous tourist destination with a long history, impressive cuisine and hospitality. To fully feel the soul of the city, you need to travel slowly and ponder for a long time. The more you stay, the more you absorb, and the more you absorb, the more you love. And for me, Rome is one of the best places to visit in Italy in September.

Rome has many historical places to visit such as the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Colosseum, Vatican… so to go to all the above places by taxi is very expensive. You can absolutely walk. Buses in Rome are often late and “sometimes” miss stops, so if you must travel by public transport, you should take the metro. I chose to rent a Piaggio Vespa and cruise the streets of Rome like a true Italian.

Maybe you don’t know, every season in Rome is beautiful, but autumn makes this place even more beautiful because the trees in the city’s parks bloom brilliantly. I kept immersing myself in that poetic atmosphere and didn’t want to leave anymore. If I were a resident here, I would probably have to come here every day to satisfy my appreciation of beauty.

4. Puglia

Puglia is one of Italy’s most popular destinations in September

With its picturesque white towns, steep cliffs facing turquoise beaches and hospitable people, Puglia is one of Italy’s most popular destinations in September. Coming to Puglia, I feel like I’m immersed in food festivals – food is the first unique feature to mention in Puglia. You can experience local specialties in traditional rural buildings, take mozzarella and burrata cheese-making classes or take classes in making the ubiquitous classic orecchiette pasta.

Fishing is also an interesting activity here. You can relax and enjoy the beautiful ocean views while waiting for the tuna and mackerel to bite. After catching the fish, enjoy it by having the chef at your hotel or on the boat deep-fry it with Puglia’s famous olive oil and sea salt.

5. Salerno

The Amalfi Coast is also fondly known as “paradise on earth”

In the region of Campania, province of Salerno, southern Italy there are many beautiful places but it is especially famous for Amalfi. This is also my next suggestion for the best places to visit in Italy in September. Well, speaking of Amalfi, the food in town couldn’t be fresher, the scenery couldn’t be more beautiful, and the sea? Couldn’t be more charming. To this day, I still remember the beautiful cliffs, pristine beaches, wavy roads, white beach houses and the fresh scent of lemon – all creating an irresistible attraction. .

The Amalfi Coast is also fondly known as “paradise on earth”. The Amalfi Coast is located in the south of the Sorrentine peninsula, in the province of Salerno in southern Italy, stretching from Salerno to Sorrento. With stunning landscapes of steep cliffs, rocky coastlines, colorful towns and breathtaking lush forests, in 1997 it was designated a UNESCO world heritage site.

Cities located on the Amalfi Coast are Vietri sul Mare, Cetara, Maiori, Minori, Ravello, Scala, Atrani, Amalfi, Conca dei Marini, Furore, Praiano, Positano. The cool temperatures of autumn also make outdoor activities more exciting. Truly one of the best places to visit in Italy in September!

Driving along the Amalfi Coast, you will pass through 13 different villages and towns between Vietri sul Mare – Positano, or in that every land is both mysterious and has a liberal character that inspires you. Feel more, explore to the end. The houses here are surrounded by lush gardens. Lemons, olives, grapes and flowers fill the air with a refreshing scent. The narrow streets are covered with cobblestones and steps.

6. Venice

the Grand Canal is as good as they say on the brochures

Grand Canal deserves to be on the list of best places to visit in Italy in September. I have to say, the Grand Canal is as good as they say on the brochures. This trip of mine was completely like it came out of a fairy tale. It gives me indescribable emotions, mixing a bit of romance, a bit of nobility and a bit of rusticity. All create a beautiful and unforgettable scene.  The best place to visit in Italy in September for those who love to travel!

The Grand Canal in Venice, Italy is a famous S-shaped traffic road. Canal Grande, the beautiful main street of Venice is of course “paved” with water and the vehicles using Canal Grande are all boats. This is the main artery of Venice and standing on one of the bridges you can see countless different types of boats, especially the many gondolas, painted in the usual black color. You can rent a gondola to take a walk on the Grand Canal or, more economically, you can use a taxi boat to take a walk around.

I really like the feeling of sitting on a rustic wharf watching the gondolas and taxi boats go back and forth. This place is so peaceful. This made taking photos a breeze, each photo a snapshot of the instantly changing waterscape of beautiful, sometimes slightly dilapidated, historic buildings along the Canal Grande.

7. Veneto

Verona is a beautiful city located in the province of Verona, in the Veneto region

Verona – Veneto is one of the best places to visit in Italy in September that I also highly recommend to you. Surely many of us know the tragic romance love story about Romeo and Juliet, right? However, do you know where this story comes from? That is from the Italian city of Verona. That is also the reason why people consider Verona to be an Italian city of love.

Verona is a beautiful city located in the province of Verona, in the Veneto region, Northern Italy. Previously, in ancient times, Verona was an important traffic node in the Italian waterway system. Verona is not only famous for the immortal love story between Romeo and Juliet but is also one of Italy’s most attractive tourist cities. Coming to Verona, you will have the opportunity to see many beautiful ancient architectural works and enjoy extremely attractive dishes.

Verona is a city with a quite modern and convenient transportation system. You will have many options to travel around the city such as buses, taxis, bicycles, etc. However, according to my Verona travel experience, the best way to explore Verona city is to walk or walk. Rent a bicycle to walk around the city.

Finish a move: best places to visit in Italy in September. I only desire one thing and that is to return to these places many more times. No kidding, I truly remember every place I went, every dish I ate, and every person I met! Go, then you will want to go again like me!

1. The Valley of the Temples in Agrigento

Adorning the land of Agrigento are magnificent Greek monuments and ancient architectural works.

Adorning the land of Agrigento are magnificent Greek monuments and ancient architectural works. This was once the location of Akragas in ancient Greece, a city that in its heyday had one of the most flourishing cultures in the Mediterranean. You can explore temples dating back to the 5th and 6th centuries BC.

Strolling amidst these ancient relics, I feel like a step back in time, a chance to envision the vibrant life of Akragas, an ancient city that once thrived here. Nestled along Sicily’s sun-soaked coastline lies the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento, a mesmerizing ode to ancient Greece. Here, majestic Doric temples stand sentinel, their weathered stones whispering tales of a bygone era.

The Temple of Concordia reigns supreme, a masterpiece of preservation dedicated to the goddess Concordia. Its elegant columns and timeless design evoke reverence for the past. Nearby, the Temple of Juno, an ethereal tribute to Hera, stands gracefully amidst the Mediterranean panorama. It’s a pity that it is one of the famous things in Italy travelers may not know. Now you know, so visit it!

2. The Trulli of Alberobello

Trulli – a unique architectural style of the people of southern Italy

Coming here, I was overwhelmed by the houses built of limestone stacked on top of each other, also known as Trulli – a unique architectural style of the people of southern Italy. In other words, these houses are also affectionately known by the locals as Trulli, which means traditional small house. Indeed, every corner of Alberobello village has its own unique beauty. To me, this place has absolutely no “dead corners”, it is always beautiful in any weather conditions.

Adorning the houses are many beautiful flower baskets with many cute colors. They have domed, conical or pyramid-shaped roofs, painted with magical or pagan symbols. The interior of Trulli-style houses is quite simple, usually consisting of a fireplace, a bed and a few different pieces of furniture.

In 1996, UNESCO included this town’s Trulli architectural form on the list of World Cultural Heritage in need of protection. The village of Alberobello derives its name from Arboris Bello, which means beautiful forest which was formerly an ancient oak forest. Alberobello village has about 1,500 beautiful Trulli houses with 11,000 residents. A famous thing in Italy but very little known – it deserves more attention from adventure travelers.

3. The Phlegraean Fields near Naples

Nestled near Naples, Italy, the Phlegraean Fields unveil a captivating narrative of volcanic wonders and tales from antiquity

The Phlegraean Fields near Naples is also one of the famous things from Italy that few people know about. Nestled near Naples, Italy, the Phlegraean Fields unveil a captivating narrative of volcanic wonders and tales from antiquity. This enigmatic region is a canvas painted with the stories of ancient civilizations and the geological drama of the Earth’s fiery past.

Besides the mysteries of nature, I most like the feeling of being able to soak in the therapeutic waters of a natural hot spring like the one in Agnano, surrounded by soothing warmth and the echoes of history – very different but also very close.

I love adventure, so I was extremely excited to come here. For those who share the same adventurous taste as me, I highly recommend this little-known place. And of course, this suggestion is not for the faint of heart!

4. The Town of Civita di Bagnoregio

Civita di Bagnoregio is actually two towns

There are many things Italy is known for, including beautiful small towns. But strangely enough, this is one of the beautiful forgotten towns. So, this is the next famous thing in Italy I want you to know about. It makes me feel like I’m going back in time, discovering a beautiful, peaceful lifestyle.

Civita di Bagnoregio is actually two towns. When first formed, the small town of Civita on a high hill was the “inner city”, Bagnoregio was the “outer city”. Due to its location on a hill where earthquakes and dangerous landslides often occur, the “inner city” of Civita is overshadowed by its “outer city”. People in Civita in turn flocked to Bagnoregio to live, gradually turning the small town on the hill into an abandoned town. After that, it was gradually restored and became a tourist attraction.

After thousands of years with many changes in nature and history, this small town still retains its inherent simplicity and peace. This is also one of the most outstanding features that makes me fall in love with this small town of Civita di Bagnoregio.

5. The Gardens of Villa Taranto

This garden’s large collection includes a variety of tropical plants, tulips, lotus flowers,…

My last suggestion in the list of famous things from Italy is The Gardens of Villa Taranto. Although less famous, this is definitely a garden that everyone dreams of visiting once in their life. Fragrant flowers, sweet fruits, rows of carefully manicured trees and elaborate miniature landscapes have given the gardens below the captivating beauty of paradise.

There are 4.3 miles of walking paths so I can enjoy the beauty of the many flowers and other attractions in the garden. This garden’s large collection includes a variety of tropical plants, tulips, lotus flowers, chrysanthemums, camellias, magnolias and petunias. This garden also possesses thousands of plant species from around the world such as eucalyptus, dwarf asters, camellias and some precious ferns.

Anyone who loves trees and nature must visit this place. In addition to trees, the garden has other beautiful sights such as statues, fountains, lakes and many waterfalls. It took me all day to experience all the mysteries of this place.

The 7 best places to visit Italy in June

1. Burano Island – a colorful gem

best places to visit Italy in June
I have fallen in love with this place until now

When it comes to traveling to Italy, people immediately think of the romantic city of Venice. But believe it or not, there is a village that makes tourists much more “heartbroken”. I have fallen in love with this place until now. Therefore, this is my first suggestion about the best places to visit in Italy in June.

Located in the Venice lagoon, the island of Burano with its rows of brightly colored houses is used as a beacon for fishermen to find their way home after a long day at sea.

Visiting the captivating island of Burano is an absolute treat for enthusiasts of architecture and artistry. Its charm lies in the vibrant rows of houses resembling a picturesque rainbow, each painted in bold hues. According to the fishing village people, decorating their houses with bright colors helps them find their homes more easily. Bright, vibrant colors also help them feel more optimistic in life.

Nestled between these colorful facades, charming canals flow with crystal-clear waters, adding to the island’s enchanting allure. The scenic beauty and artistic ambiance of Burano create an unforgettable experience for every visitor.  What’s more wonderful than an afternoon of immersing yourself in a poetic space, admiring peaceful life through cheerful colors?

2. Tuscany – The peaceful beauty of paradise

Tuscany is also known as the dream land of paradise (La Dolce Vita)

It’s not the famous cities around the world like Rome or Venice, but the Tuscany countryside that left me with the most memories on this trip. This same land is the place that when I left I immediately wanted to return, the place where staying for a week a month is still not enough.

Is the thought of sipping a glass of world-class wine made directly from the vineyard and immersing yourself in the fresh air there enough to make you eager to experience Tuscany this summer? Writing this, I have to quickly take back the bottle of wine I bought here and sip a little. Wow…it couldn’t be better!

Not only famous for its premium grape fields, Tuscany is also known as the dream land of paradise (La Dolce Vita). This place has the beauty of harmony between the mountains and the sea, between nostalgic beauty and elegance and nobility – One of the best places to visit in Italy in June you must go!

Coming to Tuscany, you can choose lovely apartments in ancient towns. However, for me, I definitely have to rent a farm because for a long time, I have watched movies about Italy and still dream of the day I can live on hectares of farms like this. I want to open my eyes every morning to see the cool grasslands, hear the chirping of birds and fill my chest with sweet, fresh air that you will never find in urban areas.

3. Amalfi Coast – the winding roads

Exploring the Amalfi Coast, I used 100% public transportation, extremely economical and effective

I visited this place in September but heard reviews that summer is also very chill so I decided to visit in June. This time, when traveling to explore the Amalfi Coast, I used 100% public transportation, extremely economical and effective.

Sorrento was my first sightseeing stop on my journey to discover the best places to visit in Italy in June. This place is extremely colorful and cute, with souvenir stalls and pretty streets like a fairy tale under the Italian sunshine. And go to the panoramic view point, see the panoramic view of Naples Bay from Sorrento, the vast deep blue water, captivating those who love the sea.

I walked here for about an hour, then returned to Sorrento station to catch the bus. The bus runs from Sorrento to Positano, about more than 1 hour on the bus, watching the beautiful winding Amalfi Bay sea, remember to get on the bus and sit at the window on the right side. In Amalfi, I was even more chill, went out to eat ice cream, then sat down and enjoyed the view of the central square with the Amalfi Cathedral and its beautiful steps. I walked around freely and enjoyed the breeze, never getting bored.

4. Lake Como – natural beauty

Lake Como is very large and surrounded by many beautiful villages. Looking at the map, there are probably no less than a dozen villages such as Bellagio, Tremezzo, Varenna, Como, Lenno, Bellano, Menaggio, Cernobbio, Argegno, Gravedona… (It seems like there are 10 already, right guys, but please note that there are still a lot left). You must come here – one of the best places to visit in Italy in June. It won’t be a waste of your time!

In addition to walking around the village, you can choose a few outstanding villas at Lake Como to visit because this place often has the best views. Under the bright sunlight of May days, Lake Como appears with an extremely attractive blue color, dotted with the clear blue sky and the rolling mountains spreading their arms around it. There was something cool and cool about the weather, and something refreshing and clear about the air. It felt like I had just drank a glass of pure, sweet filtered water.

5. Puglia – summer paradise

If you need a real hideaway, Puglia is your paradise!

Puglia is my next suggestion in the list of best places to visit in Italy in June. If you need a real hideaway, this is your paradise! Coming here, I feel like I am separate from the hustle and bustle world out there. Fresh air, delicious food, enthusiastic service and especially full Internet. I must say it’s absolutely amazing.

Located in the south of Italy and bordering the sea, Puglia is the number 1 choice for those who want to find a summer “escape”. The architecture here is mostly cone-shaped stone vaults that are bleached white, flanked by shady vines. Puglia is surrounded by clear blue sea water and rocky outcrops – products of mother nature, all creating beautiful scenery like in a fairy tale.

I don’t remember clearly how much time I spent in this beautiful space, but the feeling of “falling in love with no end” is almost real :)).

6. Dolomite – best place to visit in Italy in June

The landscape in Dolomite is likened to a majestic landscape painting

I still remember the feeling of relaxation when enjoying the magical beauty of nature, away from crowded cities when coming to Dolomite. If you have a lot of time to wander around this beautiful boot-shaped country, don’t forget to visit the Dolomite Mountains in the Alps in Northern Italy.

The landscape in Dolomite is likened to a majestic landscape painting with steep, high and steep rock “walls” and narrow and deep valleys. The breathtaking, indescribable beauty of the Dolomite deserves to be listed as a world heritage site by UNESCO in 2009. Please, come here, it’s not a waste of your time!

Well, if you have the internet, call your friends and relatives so they can admire this place with you. I use eSIM throughout my journey to do this. Other travel enthusiasts have told me that one-of-a-kind moments need to be shared with your loved ones, because they only come around once in a lifetime. Even if you go back and forth, you won’t be able to get the same feeling as you do now.

7. Positano village – famous fishing village worldwide

Positano village is like a place to “purify” the soul

Positano village is like a place to “purify” the soul, a place to filter away the fatigue of everyday hustle and bustle or the noisy dust and smoke of the city. Coming to Positano village, I feel like coming to an underground paradise, where people live with all the serenity, lightness and generosity!

Positano is a fishing village on the Amalfi Coast. Unlike the brilliant Cinque Terre coast or the splendid Burano island, Postino has a gentler and quieter character. I like the feeling of floating here, very strange! This is also my last suggestion in the list of 5 best places to visit in Italy in June.

The houses are located on steep cliffs but are built artistically with layers of delicately coordinated colors. As a combination of charming scenery and creative human hands, Positano village brings me wonderful moments of enjoyment. Coming here, you can immerse yourself in cool blue sea water and admire the beautiful natural landscape like a dream.

The searchable feature and integrated maps offer a comprehensive understanding of routes.

The app offers a 3-color guide for arrival time accuracy, aiding users in assessing the reliability of arrival times:

  • Green: Arrival time is confirmed to be accurate.
  • Yellow: Arrival time is reasonably accurate.
  • Red: Arrival time might not be reliable.

Booking.com is the world’s largest online booking website with a network of hotels, motels, and resorts around the globe. The operation is very simple, I just need to enter the destination, time, trip purpose and click search, the rest will be up to Booking.com. No matter where you want to go in Italy, this app is the best app for Italy travel.

What I like most about Booking.com’s operating model is that their service is free because, unlike many others, they won’t charge you a service fee or add any (booking) fees. any additional to the room rate. Don’t worry, the accommodation provider will pay a commission (a small percentage of the room price) to Booking.com after the guest has stayed at (and paid for) the accommodation.

According to my research, I have not seen any cases of problems or negative feedback from customers. After all, Booking.com only provides an intermediary service, and their experience is abundant and their reputation is unquestionable. If any problem occurs, they will resolve it properly.

TripAdvisor is like a forum where people can find a lot of advice and feedback about hotel information, attractions, and places to eat. It is considered the world’s largest travel community with more than 60 million monthly visits and more than 100 million reviews.

Thanks to this travel application, I quickly consulted other travelers’ reviews about travel services after they experienced them, with the true perspective of the person who experienced them. A best travel app for Italy you should not miss.

5. veteranmax – Telecom app

The harsh truth is that we boldly go and explore because we always believe that “If you don’t know something, just look it up on Google”. But what if the place you want to go, or you are lost in a place with no WiFi, no 3G signal, meaning no Internet connection? Not everywhere has a wireless connection, not to mention that the favorite places of backpackers are sometimes located in places where “the monkey can’t come, the stork can’t hear”, so the signal will be very unstable. That’s why many people “orient” to using veteranmax. I also tried!

veteranmax: Streamline your global connectivity with veteranmax, considered the best travel app for Italy travel. Now you can explore freely, leave the Internet to us! Our innovative company ensures seamless internet and data connections for you, allowing access to reliable connectivity without the hassle of changing physical SIM cards, making veteranmax an essential companion for globetrotters seeking convenience and connectivity.

Whether you want to explore bustling cities or venture into the peaceful countryside, these 5 best sim cards for Italy not only provide connectivity but also reliable coverage, data plans The variety and convenience you need for a seamless Italian experience. Let’s take a closer look at these five exceptional options, ensuring you stay connected and make the most of your Italian holiday.

Is it necessary to buy a SIM card for Italy travel?

Buying a SIM card for Italy travel isn’t an absolute necessity but can be quite beneficial depending on your needs. If you require consistent and affordable access to data for navigation, communication, or online activities during your stay, purchasing a local SIM card can be highly beneficial.

However, if you have an international roaming plan from your home country that offers suitable data and call allowances in Italy without excessive fees, you might not necessarily need a local SIM card. It’s worth checking with your current provider to understand the terms of your plan and the potential costs for using your phone abroad.

Assess your data and calling needs, compare costs between local SIM cards, international roaming, or eSIM options, and consider the convenience factor before deciding whether to buy a SIM card for your Italy trip.

5 best SIM card for Italy

1. TIM (Telecom Italia Mobile)

TIM Italy, previously a state-owned mobile operator. Credit Image: revistafibra.info

TIM Italy, previously a state-owned mobile operator, transitioned to private ownership through privatization. Presently, it stands as the second-largest mobile operator in Italy, maintaining a substantial lead over its competitors in terms of customer base, with approximately 30 million subscribers – about 10 million more than its closest rival. TIM operates on various frequencies:

  • 2G: 900 MHz & 1800 MHz
  • 3G: 900 MHz & 2100 MHz (scheduled to be phased out by June 2022)
  • 4G/LTE: 800 MHz (Band 20), 1500 MHz (Band 32), 1800 MHz (Band 3), & 2600 MHz (Band 7)
  • 5G NR: 3700 MHz (n78)
  • VoLTE: Supported
  • VoWiFi: Not supported

What I like:

  • They provide a range of data plans suitable for tourists, catering to various data usage needs and durations of stay. At TIM stores, they offer a Tourist SIM card named TIM Tourist, priced at 24.99 EUR (formerly 20 EUR). The TIM Tourist SIM includes 50 GB of data, 13 GB of EU/EEA data, unlimited chat data, and 200 local/international minutes for a duration of 30 days.
  • Additionally, TIM provides specially discounted monthly plans designed specifically for individuals who are under 25 years old. This unique offering caters to the needs of younger users, ensuring affordability and accessibility to high-quality telecommunication services.

What I don’t like:

  • Possible language barriers: While stores are widely available, communication might be challenging if you don’t speak Italian fluently, affecting your understanding of plan details or support.
  • International calling rates: While local rates might be reasonable, international calling rates from TIM SIM cards might still be relatively high, especially compared to specific international calling packages offered by some carriers.

With the TIM card, many people, including me, exclaimed that when buying it, don’t expect anyone to speak English, most store employees speak the local language. This is also the thing I don’t like the most, you should consider this before buying this SIM.

2. Vodafone Italy

Vodafone Italy ranks as the third-largest mobile operator in Italy. Credit Image: breakingthenews.net

Next in this list of 5 best sim cards for Italy is Vodafone. Vodafone Italy ranks as the third-largest mobile operator in Italy, previously holding the position of the second-largest operator until the merger of Wind and Tre (3) Italy into Wind Tre. Known for its exceptional network performance, Vodafone stands out as the mobile operator with the most robust overall (4G/LTE) network performance in Italy. Vodafone operates across the following frequency bands:

  • 2G: 900 MHz & 1800 MHz
  • 3G: Not applicable – repurposed for 4G/LTE and 5G NR
  • 4G/LTE: 800 MHz (Band 20), 1800 MHz (Band 3), 2100 MHz (Band 1), & 2600 MHz (Band 7)
  • 5G NR: 3700 MHz (n78)
  • VoLTE: Supported
  • VoWiFi: Not supported

What I like:

  • Vodafone is a preferred choice for expatriates like me seeking an Italian SIM card due to its exceptional global coverage and services, which extend to rural Italy with 5G coverage. Additionally, Vodafone provides customer support in English, catering to international users. I highly recommend this provider because it makes my communication easier and faster.
  • At Vodafone stores, you can purchase a Vodafone SIM card for 10 EUR, which includes 5 EURO credit upon activation. Unfortunately, the Dolce Vita Tourist SIM card is no longer available. However, at (Rome) Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport (FCO), there are higher-priced plans available for purchase.
  • Vodafone offers enticing options for bundling home broadband with your mobile SIM, presenting excellent deals for combined services. Furthermore, they provide discounted monthly plans designed specifically for individuals under 25 years old, ensuring affordability and tailored services for this demographic.

What I don’t like:

  • Possibly high prices: Some plans might be relatively more expensive compared to other providers, especially for international services or data usage.
  • SIM swapping limitations: Regulations might limit changing SIM cards or phone numbers, which can make it challenging to switch plans or set up new services.

Travel sims usually have usage times, including Vodalfone. You should note that inserting the SIM card will activate the usage date. Therefore, only when you arrive at your destination will you install it into your phone. Although this is quite inconvenient, it will rationalize your budget.

3. WindTre

After merging into Windtre, they became the country’s largest operator. Credit Image: comparasemplice.it

Wind and Tre were major mobile players in Italy. After merging into Windtre, they became the country’s largest operator, surpassing TIM Italy and Vodafone Italy in customers. Moreover, Windtre claimed the title of the fastest mobile download speeds, particularly in 4G/LTE connections, solidifying its dominance in Italy’s telecom market.

  • Wind Tre operates on the following frequencies:
  • 2G: 900 MHz & 1800 MHz
  • 3G: 900 MHz & 2100 MHz (Phasing out by June 2022)
  • 4G/LTE: 800 MHz (Band 20), 1500 MHz (Band 32), 1800 MHz (Band 3), & 2600 MHz (Band 7)
  • 5G NR: 1800 MHz (n3), 2600 MHz (n7), & 3700 MHz (n78)
  • VoLTE: Supported
  • VoWiFi: Not supported

What I like:

  • Windtre boasts the most comprehensive coverage among the four primary networks in Italy. Their plans are priced between €12.99 and €39.99 per month and encompass a wide array of services, including broadband and mobile package plans.
  • Moreover, Windtre extends discounted monthly plans specifically tailored for individuals under 30 years old. This special provision caters to the younger demographic, offering them cost-effective options while ensuring access to top-notch telecommunication services across Italy.

What I don’t like:

  • Network issues: While coverage is generally good, some users have reported occasional network issues or inconsistencies, especially in more remote or less populated areas.
  • Customer service: Some customers have reported mixed experiences with WindTre’s customer service, citing occasional challenges in issue resolution or support. Actually, when I got to the store, the salesperson was very unfriendly and unhelpful. It sounds like: it’s your problem, I don’t care. He certainly knew I was a tourist, but he wasn’t very supportive. It is also possible that this situation only occurs in some stores, not all. This type of SIM is fine, you can still consider it.

4. Fastweb

Fastweb is also one of the best sim cards for Italy. Credit Image: mondomobileweb.it

Fastweb is also one of the best sim cards for Italy. Although its 5G NR coverage isn’t fully nationwide, you’ll have access to 2G, 3G (for now), and 4G/LTE roaming through the WindTre network.  Fastweb operates with these frequency bands:

  • 2G: Not applicable – not previously available (utilizes Wind Tre’s network)
  • 3G: Not applicable – not previously available (relies on Wind Tre’s network, although it’s being phased out)
  • 4G/LTE: Not applicable – not previously available (relies on Wind Tre’s network)
  • 5G NR: 3500 MHz (n78)
  • VoLTE: Supported
  • VoWiFi: Not supported

What I like:

  • Fastweb specializes in offering plans tailored toward heavy data usage. These plans often provide substantial data allowances at competitive rates, ideal for users who require extensive internet access.
  • They typically offer attractive data packages that cater to users needing significant data for browsing, streaming, or other online activities, ensuring cost-effectiveness for heavy data users.
  • Fastweb generally provides good network coverage in urban areas and popular tourist destinations across Italy, ensuring reliable connectivity in cities.

What I don’t like:

  • Fastweb offers SIM cards at a cost of 5 EUR, available for purchase at Fastweb stores. However, it’s important to note that acquiring a plan or performing a top-up of at least 15 EUR is a prerequisite to obtaining this SIM card. Notably, Fastweb SIM cards are not retailed at Rome’s Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport (FCO).

I bought a Fastweb in Italy. The seller was very good, we communicated in English and Italian. He inserted the SIM into my phone. It works fine. But then I realized no credit/no data. The salesperson said “you need to pay more and there were a bunch of problems after that. I had the worst customer service experience ever.

Consider exploring a travel eSIM option for Italy, which can sometimes offer more cost-effective solutions compared to purchasing a SIM card directly from Fastweb. In my Italy eSIM buying guide, I delve into an analysis of different eSIM options provided by various eSIM providers that I’ve extensively tested worldwide. You can learn more here! ( dẫn link).

5. Lycamobile

Lycamobile is the last of these best sim cards for Italy. Lycamobile is famed for its low-cost international call rates and operates in multiple European countries, Australia, South Africa, Tunisia, Uganda, and the United States, offering affordable communication options across these regions. Here are the data-featured prepaid plans offered by Lycamobile, listed with their prices in EUR (Euro):

  • National Bundles (combo)
  • International Bundles (combo)
  • Monthly Plans (combo)
  • Data Bundles

What I like:

  • Lycamobile offers SIM cards available at various price points: 5 EUR, 10 EUR, or even for “free” when purchased with a plan, which ranges between 6.99 EUR, 9.99 EUR, 11.99 EUR, and 14.99 EUR. These SIM cards can be obtained from authorized Lycamobile resellers, including grocery stores, gas stations, and electronic shops.
  • Lycamobile typically offers customer support in multiple languages, beneficial for international travelers who might require assistance in their preferred language.

What I don’t like:

  • Coverage limitations: While Lycamobile has reasonable coverage in urban areas, there might be coverage gaps or network issues in remote or less populated regions of Italy.
  • Data speeds: Some users have reported slower data speeds compared to other carriers, impacting the overall internet experience, especially during peak usage times.

I can enjoy unlimited international calling to another Lycamobile number without paying fees, but this is only valid when both numbers are out of Lycamobile’s coverage area. Calls to 900 numbers are not included in the plan.

Buying a SIM card: What’s to consider?

When buying a SIM card, especially for travel, consider the following factors:

  • Coverage: Check the coverage of the SIM card provider in the areas you’ll be visiting in Italy. Some providers might have better coverage in certain regions or cities.
  • Data plans: Assess your data needs. Determine how much data you’ll require for browsing, navigation, social media, etc. Choose a plan that suits your usage to avoid overpaying for unused data or facing additional charges for exceeding the limit.
  • Compatibility: Ensure your phone is unlocked and compatible with the network frequencies used in Italy. Different carriers use different technologies (GSM, LTE,…), so verify compatibility for seamless usage.
  • Cost: Compare prices of various SIM card options. Consider not just the initial cost but also any activation fees, top-up fees, and charges for calls, texts, and data usage.
  • Customer support: Look into the customer service and support provided by the carrier in case you encounter any issues during your stay.

Consider these factors to select the best SIM card for Italy that fits your requirements for connectivity, cost-effectiveness, and convenience during your travel.
